Gastro Pub takes Cedarburg by Storm

On New Year’s Eve, almost one year ago, The Stilt House opened its doors to the public … and it’s fair to say that the new gastro pub has been a huge hit with local residents and tourists ever since. Still boasting the original tin ceiling that it had when it operated as a tavern more than 100 years ago, the huge selection of high-end craft beers make the pub a popular hangout for anyone who has a taste for specialty beers. And, to be fair, the wine selection is pretty good too, to say nothing of some very tasty small plates. As you’re sipping your premium brew, be sure to take a close look at the photos of “old” Cedarburg hanging on the walls, and ask your waiter to tell you the tale of how a former owner managed to beat the city at its own game. More than 100 years ago, after his request to add a second floor to the Nick Schuh Tavern was denied, Schuh had the brilliant idea of raising the building up on “stilts,“ and he then proceeded to build a first floor underneath. Thus the name.
Stilt House
Conveniently located just north of the Washington House Inn, on the opposite side of the street, if you get as far as the Interurban Bridge that opens up onto Washington Avenue, you’ve gone too far. The pub opens promptly at 11 am every day, and friendly staff will race to greet you as you walk in the door.
