Is there any other small town as charming as Cedarburg at Christmastime? We, at the Washington House Inn, don’t think so but, then again, perhaps we‘re biased. Take a leisurely stroll along Washington Avenue and marvel at the thousands of tiny white lights festooning each of the historic buildings. Admire the shop windows decorated for the season with shiny baubles, colorful bows and swags of live greenery. And peek into Santa’s quaint workshop, which magically appeared on the flagstones outside the Cedarburg Community Center in mid-November, and is a veritable beacon to the littlest members of the community, especially when the jolly old fellow in red and his missus is there.

If, by chance, you happen to be in Cedarburg during the first weekend in December, there’s so much planned you’ll probably find it hard to make up your mind what to do first. On your list should be the Holiday Art Fair coordinated by the Cedarburg Artists Guild which takes place in the Cedarburg Community Center. The show run from Friday, Dec. 5 through Sunday, Dec. 7, and is the perfect showcase for more than 40 talented local artists. You won’t believe the assortment of unique gift items, from jewelry to fiber and wearable art, multimedia paintings and prints, ceramic, handcrafted furniture, birdhouses and more.

That same weekend Cedar Creek Settlement is celebrating its Christmas Showcase and 150th Anniversary Celebrations simultaneously, with live music, wine tasting and special events. There are great concerts at both the Cedarburg Cultural Center and the Cedarburg Performing Arts Center, and special tours at the Kuhefuss House Museum. And, of course, the entire downtown shopping district will be on its toes and eager to help anyone who walks though the door. For a complete listing of dates and times, visit cedarburgchristmas.com. What better way to spend a wintry weekend!
