Wander into Morton’s WisconsInn, on the corner of Hanover and Center Street, just behind the Washington House Inn, and don’t be surprised to find the small bar crammed with music lovers knocking back a few beers as they wait for the music to start. A typical old-school corner tavern, the walls and the tables are jam packed with artifacts and old posters. Waitresses bustle in and out of the kitchen carrying trays laden with food, and the anticipation grows as the musicians start warming up.
Live blues is something tavern owner Chris Morton has been offering for as long as he can remember. “We have blues musicians here every Wednesday, from September through May,” he shares. “Many of them cut their teeth here years ago and Morton’s is like their second home. They like coming back. There’s no cover charge although we do pass a basket around during the evening so people can throw in a few bucks to show their appreciation for the band.”
