One of the first questions guests returning to Cedarburg during the month of October often ask us here at the Inn is: “When are the Gothic History Tours taking place?” For those perhaps not in the know, over the past couple of decades the Cedarburg Cultural Center (CCC) has earned a reputation for sharing the dark side of Cedarburg’s history with people who possess curious minds. Those who “dare” to sign up for the 90-minute walking tour will be led at a comfortable pace through city side streets and cemeteries by knowledgeable docents who are skilled in sharing tales of hauntings and atrocities from bygone days.
Come prepared to be scared … these are more than just ghost stories, and the past will indeed come alive as citizens of Old Cedarburg, resplendent in costumes of long ago, appear and disappear into the shadows. If you think life’s not particularly rosy now, you’ll be reminded that evil and mental derangement have been with us ever since the world began. Indeed, you may even develop an appreciation for the fact that the “good old days” were not so good after all.
Sign up now to participate in this year’s Gothic History Tours which are open to anyone ages 12 and up. Tours cost $13 in advance or $15 on the day, and they’re scheduled for Friday, Oct. 23 at 7pm; Sunday, Oct. 25 at 6:30pm and Friday, Oct. 30 at 7pm. Don’t wait too long before making your reservation as the tours invariably sell out. Call 262-375-3676 or visit www.cedarburgculturalcenter.org.
Be sure to reserve your room at the Washington House Inn for your history tour!
