This month our featured artist from the Cedarburg Artist Guild is Michelle Savas-Thompson. Our Cedarburg hotel lobby gallery is filled with her colorful and evocative oil paintings, many featuring local Cedarburg scenes.
Art has always been a part of Michelle’s life in one way or another since her Mom put crayons in her hands at the age of 2. She studied abroad in France and Italy the summer of 1995 for art. Then she went on to receive her Bachelors of Fine Arts in Painting and Drawing from UW- Milwaukee in 1997.
Michelle kept art at the forefront of her thoughts as she went on to work in the printing industry and than advertising. She would spend her vacations on en Plein Air competitions each summer and doing art shows on weekends.
It was about 12 years ago she learned the love of painting en Plein Air. She also still works out of her studio. However, any opportunity to paint outdoors is welcomed. With in the last year, Michelle has taken on teaching art classes at the Jackson Community Center and the Cedarburg Cultural Center. She has had the opportunity to participate in multiple en Plein air events this past year and than some. She has shown new work continuously at various locations throughout the area and in September 2013, she participated in an Artist in Residence program through the Cedarburg Cultural Center. Michelle is a member of both the Cedarburg Artist Guild and the Menomonee Falls Art Guild.
Michelle’s motto is to always be learning, help others and be happy.
She is currently posed for a busy year to come and looks forward to meeting you for your art needs.
