Summer is around the corner and we’re counting down the days to Paint Cedarburg, the 16th annual Plein Air Event! Artists and art lovers flock to Cedarburg every year to celebrate the season and this “open air” style of painting. The event kicks off on June 6th and is running through the 17th, so come to Cedarburg and get outside to discover all the beauty and talent of the participating artists. All events are free and open to the public!
A little background… the Plein Air (or open air) movement started in 19th Century France as artists took to the outdoors to find inspiration and see how the changing of the sunlight affected their paintings. This artistic revolution quickly gained popularity in the 1800s and remains a favored style of painting today.
Cedarburg’s festival is the largest of it’s kind in the midwest. There are 150 local and national artists participating in this year’s events, trading in their studios for the open air and natural landscapes of Ozaukee County. The paintings produced throughout feature small town charm and countryside beauty. Cedarburg’s event offers more than 600 original paintings for sale. We have the pleasure to host many of these artists each year and are honored to sponsor the event again this year.
Get your hands on some art! The event wraps up with a painting exhibit and art for sale. Be sure to stop by the Cedarburg Cultural Center for the Artist/Patron Party starting at 6pm on Friday, June 8th. The center will also be open the next day 10am-5pm. Visit often as there will be new paintings presented as art gets sold. Don’t miss out on taking home your favorite pieces from the week’s events! See more details and event schedule.
